Homesick

Yes, Kate---Happy Birthday, are you finally joining the ranks of us old folks (being 26)?

There was this great little piece in the Washington Post today, and it made me homesick...

It's funny how attached we get to the names of businesses around us...I've tried to explain what it meant in 7th grade to have a "Britches Backpack" or that everyone I knew went Homecoming dress shopping at Hechts or why I sometimes slip and say Erol's instead of Blockbuster...

And it is just plain weird to have Waulbaums and Stop & Shop instead of Giant...

But anyway, after reading the little article I am now just a bit homesick for all things DC area that are distinctive...

Regression

On Friday, I volunteered at Dana's store for their Midnight Magic Harry Potter Release Party. I spent two solid hours reading Tea Leaves to 500+ children. They were supposed to get a real fortune teller, but because of "family emergencies" they picked ME to be the fortune teller for the evening.

So, Dana and I each got our own copy of the book on Friday Night/Saturday Morning and have been reading together, meaning one of us and get ahead of the other by more than a few pages. As of 10am Sunday morning we are on page 447 out of 652. We are sick, sick people. I am a Harry Potter dork--but I definitely saw a lot of people Friday night who love Harry Potter TOO MUCH.

Last night I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factor. I really enjoyed it. It was true to the book (which I have very recently reread) so it made the deviations from the original movie easier to take. I thought the added back story to Willie Wonka himself was a bit much and over done.
I loved Violet Beauregard and Mike Teavee (and their respective chaperones). The Oompa-Loompas were fantastic and creepy and their songs are quite stuck in my head this morning.

Ok, Dana is eyeing Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, so I have to get started reading.

What is going to happen when I finish this book and have to wait 2+ years for the next one?

Ok, I lead a sad and depraved life, I know...

What's New Pussycat

It's Tuesday. Only 7a.m., I have the entore day in front of me.

I came out to my parents last week ( well, sent them a letter--I a bit of a fraidy cat) and they said, and I quote, "WEll, duh." So much for being dramatic.

Dana and I have been trying to take advantage of the summer--going into the city as much as possible, going to the beach, the Aboretum (sp), visiting Dana's family--Ani DiFranco is playing out here in a couple of weeks, and we plan to go to Bellmont to watch some races--I just wish hte summer lasted longer. Everything seems a little better and easier in the summer.

Work is tough. My brain is crying form lack of usefulness.

Harry Potter comes out on Friday at midnight. I am such a dork.

Also, is anyone planning on seeing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?
